Robotics Programming

This unique program is designed to empower children and youth by enhancing their decision-making and socialization skills, all while fostering new friendships. As the Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist, you will provide a therapeutic and goal-oriented program in collaboration with the Robotics teachers and Volunteers.

This position is temporary part-time (30 hours per week) from September to June. Then, this position will become temporary full-time (37 hours per week) during July and August. This contract is subject for review/renewal on an annual basis.

Key Responsibilities

  • Completes assessments that determine the client's recreation interests and goals
  • Develops a treatment plan that reflects collaboration and communication with the client, family and team as appropriate
  • Implements treatment plans ensuring the safety and well-being of clients
  • Safely maintains equipment for client use
  • Provides leisure counselling and education for clients and families upon discharge
  • Evaluates client progress and goal attainment making revisions to treatment plan as necessary
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of programs and makes appropriate recommendations for change
  • Complies with the documentation policy outlined by Holland Bloorview
  • Documents accurate workload statistics
  • Participates actively in departmental meetings
  • Works closely with the other recreation & life skill staff to ensure an integrated approach to care
  • Participates in the training and supervision of students and recreation therapist assistants
  • Identifies personal and professional learning needs and establishes goals
  • Participates in quality improvement initiatives, supports the maintenance of a safe and healthy work environment and advances a culture of client/patient safety through work and daily practices

Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree in Therapeutic Recreation; or a Bachelors degree in related health discipline and a college diploma in Therapeutic Recreation, plus certified (CTRA)
  • R-TRO Designation
  • Maintain updated CPR status as required
  • Valid Ontario Class "F" Drivers licence - preferred
  • Previous job related experience required, including knowledge of paediatric rehabilitation including Brain Injury, Specialized Orthopaedics and Development, and Complex Continuing Care
  • Experience working in the field of Therapeutic Recreation, preferably with children who have a physical and/or developmental disability
  • Experience and/or interest in STEM programming (including robotics, science, coding, etc)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills required to effectively communicate with clients, families and members of the interdisciplinary team.
  • Proven ability to measure service effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Demonstrates ability to organize time and meet deadlines
  • Demonstrates initiative and self direction
  • Demonstrates ability to effectively and efficiently manage fluctuating clinical responsibilities
  • Proven ability to work with clients, individuals and in a group setting
  • Proven ability to be an effective member of an inter-professional team
  • Demonstrates knowledge of evidence based practice in Therapeutic Recreation
  • Must be available to work evenings and weekends.
