Relief Cook (Union position)

• To provide Evangeline Women's Shelter clients with quality and nutritious meals.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

• This is a relief position with no guaranteed hours. Will be working 8 or 12 hour shifts

• Completed High School plus specialized courses of up to 6 months
• Food Handler certificate required
• Certification in First Aid/CPR, and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention

EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE:

• Minimum 1 year prior related experience
• Experience cooking for groups of 90 individuals or more
• Knowledge and understanding of: Crisis Intervention, Canada Food Guide, use of food service equipment and storage
• Experience in using a Menu Plan

SKILLS AND CAPABILITIES:

• Demonstrated skills pertinent to working with homeless persons
• Ability to work under minimum supervision
• Computer skills
• Possess good organization skills
• Willing to accept the Code of Conduct required for those working at Evangeline Residence
• Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening
• Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities
