BGC Jane and Finch Club serves children and youth in the Jane and Finch and surrounding communities providing social, physical, educational, creative, seasonal, and community support programs. Your role as a Summer Camp Mentor will be to provide a safe and supportive environment for the program participants. This program is design for Pre-teen and Youth 12- 17years of age. Program components include education, recreation, social activities, sports, health and nutrition, mentoring and the arts.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize and lead a group of youth in a group setting
  • Ensure that you are creating a safe and enjoyable environment for participants
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Youth Program, ensuring every aspects of the program are functioning adequately.
  • Complete appropriate administrative tasks in a timely manner (i.e. attendances and head counts)
  • Plan, organize and deliver high quality safe and stimulating programs for all levels of participants.
  • Ensuring programs are safe, age/developmentally appropriate, non-competitive, inclusive, innovative and skilled based in nature.
  • Help to ensure the safety and security of the members and assist in responding to critical incidents as outlined in the Club's policies and procedures
  • Participate in staff training and orientation sessions
  • Ensuring the safety and supervision of participants at all times by strictly following guidelines and procedures (i.e. head counts)
  • Dealing with conflicts and behavior management immediately using corrective techniques as discussed in training
  • Report to, and takes direction from Program Manager and Supervisors
  • Do other related tasks, as assigned
  • Maintain positive and professional relationships with peers, members, volunteers, parents and other Club members
  • Attend regularly scheduled meetings
  • Arrive no later than 15 minutes prior to scheduled shift.
  • Proven ability to manage and mentor youth outdoor leadership camp environment.

  • One-week Outdoor Camping mandatory (Sleep away camp)

Qualifications

  • Educational background applicable to the position (asset)
  • Must meet all "Canada Summer Jobs" requirements including:
    • Be between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment.
    • Be a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the
      Immigration and Refugee Protection Act*; and
    • Be legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial / territorial legislation and regulations.
      *International students are not eligible. Recent immigrants are eligible if they are Canadian Citizens or permanent residents.
  • Experience working with youth 13 to 18 years old
  • Strong skills in one or more of the following areas: education, leadership, community-oriented, communication
  • Strong supervision and program planning skills
  • Good decision making and problem-solving skills
  • Current First Aid and CPR training (mandatory)
  • Police Reference Check completed within last 6 months (mandatory to obtain prior to start date)
  • HIGH FIVE: Principles of Healthy Child Development training (mandatory)

Contract Period: June 30, 2025 - August 15, 2025

*Must attend mandatory training from June 30 to July 4, 2025

Hours: 35-37.5 per week Monday to Friday looking for individuals available 5 days a week (mandatory)
