Senior Development Officer, Southwestern Ontario

We’re currently seeking a Senior Development Officer to join our team and grow unrestricted fundraising revenue for the Southwestern Ontario region.

This role may be a fit for you if you consider yourself a great relationship-builder and thrive on developing and growing connections with the local community, event participants and other supporters. A skilled fundraiser, you will need to be someone who is driven by goals and targets but also understands the importance of stewardship and deepening donor engagement over time. In this role you will work closely with your immediate colleagues on the Ontario regional team as well those on other teams within JDRF in order to best support the needs of the Southwest and broader Ontario region.

About 70% of your time would be spent on event fundraising, with the remaining 30% on other fundraising priorities such as annual/monthly, mid-level and 3rd party fundraising.

  • Implement fundraising best practices to achieve and exceed revenue and participation targets for peer-to-peer fundraising events
  • Work closely with the Development Manager, Ontario to strategize and execute fundraising plans for assigned region
  • Inspire, motivate, and engage event participants
  • Identify opportunities and develop relationships with key event participants, corporate contacts, volunteers, and influential community members
  • Build relationships with newly diagnosed families, offering resources and sharing information about fundraising events in the region
  • Balance engagement and stewardship activities of current event participants with prospecting and recruitment of new event participants
  • Maintain comprehensive records of participant/donor interactions using a CRM database and other systems
  • Collaborate closely with the corporate partnerships and event experience teams to achieve overall event objectives
  • Participate in and attend special events and community engagement activities to represent JDRF and promote JDRF’s mission and fundraising goals.
  • Build and manage a portfolio of annual, monthly, and mid-level donors in various stages of identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship and ensure appropriate movement through the pipeline to achieve revenue targets
  • Create personalized strategies to engage and steward regional donors and families
  • Provide direct support to third-party (Fundraise Your Way) event organizers or fundraisers
  • Solicit and steward regional revenue through corporate partnerships, Foundation giving, sponsorships, or leadership giving (major gifts)
  • Maintain a comprehensive understanding of JDRF’s mission and research strategy.

Here’s the skills and experience we’re looking for:

  • 2-3 years of fundraising experience and a University or College degree in Business Administration, Communications, Fundraising or a related discipline or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience working on peer-to-peer fundraising events
  • Exceptional interpersonal and presentation skills; ability to interact meaningfully with donors, families, colleagues, and businesses
  • Strategic thinking and problem solving, with strong organizational and analytical skills.
  • Ability to leverage relationships, make connections, and negotiate agreements
  • Strong written and oral communication skills and high level of comfort communicating complex information (e.g. JDRF research, fundraising priorities, etc.) to a wide range of audiences
  • Ability to proactively monitor and adjust activities in response to changing circumstances and priorities
  • Proactively addresses issues or challenges as they arise and mitigates risks associated with revenue
  • Goal-oriented and self-motivated with an entrepreneurial spirit
  • Ability to prioritize in a fast-paced and dynamic environment while maintaining attention to detail
  • Proficient computer skills including Office 365; experience using CRM and various fundraising platforms will be considered an asset
  • Flexibility to travel throughout the region (15%) and to attend evening and weekend events; valid driver’s license required

Salary for the new incumbent is anticipated to be within the range of $55,000 – $61,000 commensurate with skills and experience in relation to the role requirements.

Location Preference: Southwestern Ontario (London, Kitchener-Waterloo and surrounding areas). JDRF is remote-first so this position will work from a home-office.
