Main Purpose and Function
A key component of the Operations and Maintenance Group of the Park Board's Recreation team, this is a technical, leadership position that manages the base building plant operations, specialized recreation facilities such as ice rink ammonia plants, swimming pools, and building services for the recreation department.
This position is responsible for the technical and supervisory oversight of building operations ensuring that the facilities within the portfolio are:
This position provides the leadership and technical oversight of the mechanical, general maintenance and janitorial staff assigned to the Recreation department. They are involved in the development and implementation of long and short-term maintenance planning as it pertains to recreation facilities. This position assists the division in developing strategic goals and objectives and is responsible for the workplace health and welfare of the operations staff.
The position reports to the Associate Director, Recreation Services but has frequent interaction with other Associate Directors on the Recreation Leadership Team, Recreation staff, Real Estate and Facilities Management (REFM), and other City Departments. There is also considerable interaction with external agencies such as Community Centre Associations, non-profit operators, WorkSafe BC and Technical Safety BC. This position has a minimum of 2 direct reports, including 2 exempt Superintendent, Recreation Operations.

Where operationally appropriate and subject to change, the City of Vancouver has a Flexible Work Program. This program allows staff to work a hybrid work week from locations that are a daily commutable distance from their work at a City worksite. At this time this position is eligible to be part of the Flexible Work Program.
