This position provides support to the Head Cook and Hospitality Manager in the operation of the Kitchen, Dining Hall, Cooks and Kitchen Support Staff.
General Duties
· Work under the direction of the Head Cook and Hospitality manager to prepare meals for large groups of diners according to the menus provided. Must be comfortable using, or willing to learn how to operate, an array of commercial kitchen equipment, such as griddles, deep fryers, ovens and combination ovens, stovetop, steamtables, etc.
· Prepare separate and appropriate meals for those with dietary needs/allergies.
Other related duties as assigned.

MANAGERIAL/Technical Leadership RESPONSIBILITY:
FINANCIAL AND MATERIALS MANAGEMENT:
· Assist with supervision of receiving and stocking food and kitchen supply orders.
· Use of various kitchen tools and appliances (ex: knives, stove/oven, deep fryer, dishwasher, electric mixers, etc.).
· Use of various cleaning chemicals and tools (ex: broom, mop, vacuum, etc.).
WORKING CONDITIONS:
· The individual is able to live onsite with a meals and accommodations taxable benefit if needed.
· This position requires long hours standing on hard surfaces.
· This position requires individuals to work in close proximity to others in a fast-paced and sometimes crowded environment. The work can be physically taxing and requires good mobility.
· This position pays an hourly salary at 40 hours/week.

· Culinary education and training preferred
· Standard First Aid + CPR & AED required
· Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector required (no more than 3 years old)
· Clearance through internal Salvation Army child & youth abuse prevention protocol
Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements:
· Minimum 1 year experience working in a busy kitchen/food preparation & service environment.
· Experience overseeing menu planning and food supply orders.
· Minimum 1 year leading and supervising a kitchen and its personnel is preferred.
· Respect and understanding of The Salvation Army - its mission, culture, and values.
Skills and Capabilities:
· Flexible and have a good disposition.
· Able to maintain a responsible level of maturity and leadership.
· Willingness to train and coach youth in food preparation, safe practices, health & safety, cleanliness/sanitization and the importance of good service to diners.
· Demonstrate support for the overall mission and goals of PLC summer camping through food service.
DAYS and HOURS of work:
The chosen applicant will be required to work either a morning (6:00am-2:00pm) or afternoon (11:00am-7:00pm) shift, Monday-Friday. We ask for flexibility with these hours, as they may need to be adjusted depending on the needs of each camping group. There may also be a requirement to work some weekends or overtime hours, in addition to the regular hours. Lodging and meals can be provided as a taxable benefit for those applicants requiring same.
