Responsibilities

  • Manage, review, and monitor the financial reporting function to ensure financial records are accurate, complete, and fully supported
  • Provide leadership, mentorship, coaching, and training to the Associates in the Financial Reporting team (total 7 Associates) and interface with Associates throughout the organization
  • Coordinate, lead, and be accountable for the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end General Ledger (GL) close-off process
  • Responsible for maintaining the accuracy of the GL and sub-ledgers
  • Assist with the preparation and review of quarter-end and year-end consolidated financial statements, MD&A, and other public disclosure documents
  • Coordinate and interface with external auditors and consultants and maintain good working relationships
  • Perform ad hoc analytics as needed by Boardwalk's Management Team or Operations Associates
  • Assist with the review and testing of internal controls over financial reporting
  • Assist with the design and implementation of accounting policies and procedures
  • Identify and investigate financial system issues and recommend and implement solutions
  • Support the day-to-day functions, including the reviewing and signing of vendor payments and tenant security deposit refund cheques
  • Assist with IT automation initiatives
  • Other duties as required

Experience and Educational Requirements

  • Chartered Professional Accountant designation and a bachelor degree (preferably trained in one of the Big 4 accounting firms)
  • Minimum 3 to 5 years post-designation financial reporting experience, either with a small publicly traded company or as part of a team for a large publicly traded company
  • Experience and judgement dealing with International Financial Reporting Standards
  • Knowledge of business best practices

Technical Requirements

  • Proficiency with Office 365 (Excel, Word, and Outlook)
  • Knowledge with accounting software and working in a fast-paced computer environment
  • Sound analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving skills

Non-Technical Requirements

  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, communication, and time-management skills
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize workload, and the workload of others
  • Deadline and goal oriented
  • Ability to work independently and with other Associates in a team environment
  • Passionate and eager to take on new challenges
