Conference and Event Management within Ancillary Services is currently seeking a Recurring Part-time Event Services Attendant.

Reporting to the Manager, Conference and Events, the Event Services Attendant ensures the physical coordination of all activities at all spaces managed by UCAE during weekends, holidays and off peak hours. The Event Services Attendant provides a delivery of tables, chairs and other services as per client requests across campus in a timely manner. The applicant will be required to create room set-ups, supervise events, and aid in the daily operations of the department in a professional and courteous manner. Work is done on a pre-function basis and can occur at the different venues at any time of day. Some travel on campus may be required.

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

  • Ensure safe movement of items of various weights and sizes using a variety of material handling equipment, including carts, dollies, power jacks and forklifts.
  • Safe operation of panel 1-ton or 3-ton trucks used for delivery and pick-up services.
  • Ensure that equipment and work space/facilities supplied by the University are maintained and kept in good order.
  • Ensure immediate supervisor is kept informed of activities, changes or problems encountered when providing service to the campus.
  • Ensure daily tasks are completed efficiently and in a timely manner.
  • Regular work attendance and punctuality is imperative in this position.
  • Interact effectively with co-workers and staff on campus, demonstrate consideration and respect, aware of the impact of behavior on others and able to modify approaches effectively.

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Completion of Grade XII.
  • Must successfully complete WHMIS and First aid
  • Must be able to operate a University vehicle safely and have a valid driver's license for the type of vehicle they are driving.
  • A valid Class 5 driver's license (cannot be a graduated license) with proven good driving record (abstract required).
  • Previous experience in shipping and receiving operations would be an asset.
  • A year experience in setting up banquets, meetings, special events and/or conferences would be an asset.
  • Must have excellent people skills while dealing with clients and other staff members.
  • Must possess good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be able to lift up to 75lbs, this may require lifting things up/ down stairways.
  • Intermediate skills in working with Microsoft office.
  • Must be able to address priorities and handle a number of tasks simultaneously.
  • An understanding of the university and it's organizational structure is an asset.
  • A strong attention to detail.
