JOB DESCRIPTION
The Stewarding team at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre plays a vital behind-the-scenes role in supporting smooth and efficient food service operations. We’re currently hiring Stewards to help maintain cleanliness, organization, and safety in our kitchens and event spaces by preparing equipment, operating dishwashing machinery, and handling dishware. Successful candidates will be reliable, detail-oriented, physically capable, and available to work rotating shifts, including days, evenings, overnights, weekends, and holidays.
JOB RESPONSIBILTIES
- Prepare hot boxes, glasses, dishware, utensils, glassware, Escoffiers, and other kitchen essentials for upcoming events, organizing items for transport from the kitchen to the event venue.
- Transport food, equipment, and kitchen items to event venues, and return dirty service items to the dishwashing room using manual carts or electric pump trucks, with distances varying by event location.
- Transporting;
- Transporting food and kitchen items from the kitchen to the event venue for service.
- Transporting dirty service items to the dishwashing room using manual carts or electric pump trucks. Distance may vary depending on the event location within the Convention Centre.
- Debussing;
- Collecting dirty dishware, utensils and glasses between each course.
- Separating food and waste into compost, recycling, and trash bins, as well as sorting cutlery and dishware.
- Placing glasses and cups into dishwasher racks.
- Shrink-wrapping full Queen Mary carts and transporting them to the dishwashing room.
- Dishwashing;
- Placing or stacking dirty wares onto conveyor belts, separating dishes from the conveyor, loading into dishwasher.
- Unloading and stacking cleaned dishes, placing dishes onto Queen Mary carts, and sorting cutlery into separate bins.
JOB SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum 1-year previous stewarding experience.
- Ability to perform repetitive lifting and carrying of heavy loads (up to 50lbs).
- Familiar with sanitation practices within a Kitchen environment, push and pull transportation carts such as Queen Mary wagons.
- Be able to stand for long periods of time; operate a dish and pot washer; etc.
- Strong team-building skills to effectively work in a collaborative work environment.
- Must be available to work all shifts including day, afternoon, and evening shifts starting at 4:00 pm and/or the overnight shift starting at 11:00 pm
