Role Description The Food Safety Technician is a full-time, on-site role based at Plant Veda’s facility in Abbotsford, BC. This role is responsible for monitoring and verifying food safety and quality procedures throughout production, including conducting inspections, audits, and routine sampling of raw materials and finished products. The Food Safety Technician maintains accurate records, supports compliance with HACCP, CFIA, Organic (certification) and other relevant regulations, and assists in the investigation and documentation of non-conformances and corrective actions. Daily tasks include working closely with production staff to ensure sanitation standards are met, calibrating and using testing equipment, and supporting internal training on food safety practices. The role also participates in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance product quality, process efficiency, and overall food safety systems. Qualifications Strong knowledge of food safety principles, HACCP, and relevant regulatory requirements (e.g., CFIA, FSMA, GFSI schemes). Experience with quality assurance and quality control practices in a food or beverage manufacturing environment. Ability to perform sampling, basic laboratory tests, and environmental monitoring, with attention to detail and accurate recordkeeping. Familiarity with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), sanitation procedures, and allergen control in production facilities. Effective communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate with production, sanitation, and management personnel. Strong organizational and time-management abilities, capable of handling multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment. Post-secondary education in Food Science, Microbiology, Quality Assurance, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience. Comfort with basic computer applications (e.g., data entry, spreadsheets, quality management systems); experience with documentation and audits is an asset. Previous experience in plant-based or dairy alternative manufacturing is an asset but not required.
