Position Overview 

Help build a safer future with us! As our Health & Safety Officer, you'll lead the development and evolution of health and safety programs across Basecamp Resorts and Everwild. Working closely with leaders across our hotels, resorts, spas, and corporate teams, you'll champion a proactive safety culture, ensure compliance, reduce risk, and help create safe, healthy workplaces as we continue to grow across Western Canada.

Salary: $70,000.00 - $85,000.00

Location: Canmore, AB

Key Responsibilities

Health & Safety Program Management

  • Develop, implement, maintain, and continuously improve company health and safety programs.
  • Ensure health and safety policies, procedures, and standards remain current and compliant.
  • Develop safe work practices, safe job procedures, and safety documentation.
  • Maintain corporate health and safety manuals and supporting documentation.
  • Identify opportunities to improve organizational safety performance.

Legislative Compliance & Risk Management

  • Monitor legislative requirements and ensure compliance across all jurisdictions.
  • Conduct health and safety audits and assessments.
  • Identify workplace hazards and recommend corrective actions.
  • Support operational teams in implementing risk mitigation strategies.
  • Maintain compliance records and documentation.
  • Prepare for regulatory inspections and audits.

 

Incident Management & Investigations

  • Lead workplace incident investigations and root cause analyses.
  • Review incident reports and identify trends.
  • Develop corrective and preventative action plans.
  • Track completion of corrective actions.
  • Support managers with incident response and reporting requirements.
  • Prepare incident summaries and reports for leadership.

 

WCB/WorkSafeBC & Return-to-Work Coordination

  • Oversee workplace injury reporting processes.
  • Act as the primary corporate contact for WCB and WorkSafe claims.
  • Monitor claims and identify opportunities to reduce claim duration and costs.
  • Support return-to-work and modified-duty programs in partnership with People & Culture and Operations.
  • Maintain injury and claims reporting metrics.

 

Health & Safety Training & Education

  • Develop and coordinate health and safety training programs.
  • Facilitate safety orientations and training sessions.
  • Maintain training records and certification tracking.
  • Support managers with ongoing safety education initiatives.
  • Promote awareness of health and safety responsibilities throughout the organization.

Joint Health & Safety Committee Support

  • Provide guidance and support to Joint Health & Safety Committees.
  • Assist with committee formation and compliance requirements.
  • Review meeting minutes and follow up on action items.
  • Support workplace inspections and committee initiatives.
  • Ensure committee requirements are met in each jurisdiction.

Safety Inspections & Property Support

  • Conduct regular property inspections and safety audits.
  • Travel to company locations to assess compliance and operational risks.
  • Evaluate employee housing, maintenance operations, spa facilities, kitchens, and guest-facing areas from a health and safety perspective.
  • Partner with operational leaders to address safety concerns and implement improvements.

 

Reporting & Continuous Improvement

  • Maintain health and safety metrics, dashboards, and reporting.
  • Analyze trends and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Prepare regular reports for leadership.  Support annual planning and organizational risk assessments.
  • Foster a proactive culture of health, safety, and continuous improvement across the organization.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of progressive occupational health and safety experience.
  • Experience supporting multi-site operations.
  • Strong knowledge of Alberta Occupational Health and Safety legislation.
  • Strong knowledge of British Columbia Occupational Health and Safety legislation. 
  • Experience conducting incident investigations and root cause analysis.
  • Experience developing and implementing health and safety programs.
  • Experience facilitating health and safety training.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and health and safety management systems.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel regularly.
  • National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO), Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP), Occupational Health & Safety Certificate, or equivalent designation considered an asset.
