About the role
Rocky Mountain School District #6 is now accepting applications for Casual Journeyman Cook in the Windermere Zone.
The Journeyman Cook is responsible for food preparation and instructional assistance work in an instructional kitchen/cafeteria. This role includes meal production and the supervision of students learning food preparation. Work is performed under the general guidance of a Teacher and the Principal in terms of quality and timelines of meal preparation and service rendered to students.
Illustrative Examples of Work
- Supervises students in assigned learning situations and food preparation assignments.
- Demonstrates and assists in the instruction of students in proper food preparation, cooking and baking methods, procedures and techniques, safety habits, hygiene and sanitation standards.
- Performs cooking, baking and other food preparation duties, prepares meals for daily lunch.
- Prepares recipes and menus, orders food stuffs and supplies, maintains inventory levels.
- Participates in kitchen clean-up routines.
- Maintains, operates and uses standard kitchen tools and appliances such as knives, slicers, grill, fryer, stoves, steamers, mincers, washing machines, dishwasher, fridges and freezers.
- In the absence of the Teacher Chef, may be required to supervise kitchen staff.
- Performs other duties as required.
Required Knowledge, Abilities and Skills
- Thorough knowledge of instructional and/or commercial food production, meal preparation, methods and practices.
- Ability to prepare recipes from menus and determine required ingredients and amounts.
- Ability to plan and organize own work as required for rotating menu.
- Ability to supervise and instruct students in proper food preparation methods and techniques.
- Skill in the use and operation of standard kitchen tools and appliances.
- Physical ability to perform large-scale cooking, baking and food preparation duties.
Required Training, Experience and Certification
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Food Safe
- BC certificate of registration as a Journeyman Cook
Rate of Pay
$37.16/hr, as per the Collective Agreement 440
