ABOUT THE ROLE
Vacancy Status: This posting is for a current vacancy to begin Fall 2026.
The Municipality of Clarington, Public Services Department, Community Services Division is looking for enthusiastic and knowledgeable staff to provide leadership and supervision in a safe and enjoyable environment for our seasonal recreation programs. Our seasonal recreation program operate September 2026 through June 2027.
Work Model: Front Line
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assisting the Supervisor, Community Programs – Recreation and Inclusion and the Recreation Coordinator in implementing seasonal recreation programs.
- Assisting in the supervision of recreation part-time staff and volunteers.
- Assisting in the delivery of all mandatory training and meetings.
- Overseeing daily recreation program activities at multiple locations.
- Collecting daily attendance records and make any necessary follow up calls.
- Providing support, guidance, and feedback to staff.
- Other duties as assigned.
WHAT YOU BRING
- Candidates must be a minimum of 16 years of age and exhibit maturity, responsibility, and leadership skills.
- Three (3) years experience working with children and youth in a recreation setting is required.
- Two (2) years program leadership experience at a supervisory level is required.
- Excellent verbal communication skills and strong written communication skills.
- Demonstrated experience in areas of program planning and evaluation.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Demonstrated experience providing excellent customer service.
- Proof of current Standard First Aid and CPR “C” certification would be an asset at time of interview. Successful candidates must obtain a Standard First Aid and CPR “C” certificate at employee’s expense prior to commencing employment.
- Certificate in High 5 Principles of Healthy Child Development (PHCD) would be an asset at time of interview. Successful candidates must obtain a PHCD certificate at employee’s expense prior to commencing employment.
- A valid Ontario Driver’s License Class “G” with a satisfactory Driver’s Abstract and access to reliable transportation.
- Must be able to legally work in Canada.
Please note: Successful candidates will be required to complete scheduled training prior to recreation programs beginning.
WHAT WE OFFER
- Rate of pay: $23.09 per hour (2026 rate).
- Hours of work: Successful candidates will be required to complete scheduled training prior to the start of programs and must be able to work daytime, evenings and weekends, up to a maximum 24 hours per week.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
A satisfactory criminal record check with a vulnerable sector check and proof of qualifications will be required for the successful candidate.
Prior to starting the position, the successful candidate must provide, at their own expense, the following:
- Current Standard First Aid and CPR “C” Certificate.
- High 5 Principles of Healthy Child Development Certificate.
- A valid Ontario Driver’s License Class “G” with a satisfactory Driver’s Abstract and access to reliable transportation.
