Role Description The Cook role at Waterford Grand & Bristol is a full-time, on-site position located in Ottawa, ON, responsible for preparing and cooking meals according to established menus, recipes, and dietary guidelines. Day-to-day tasks include planning and preparing nutritious, appealing dishes, ensuring proper portion control, and meeting any special dietary or texture-modified requirements of residents. The Cook maintains a clean, safe, and organized kitchen by following food safety standards, performing regular cleaning, and properly storing food and supplies. This role also involves collaborating with dietary and caregiving staff, assisting with menu changes, monitoring inventory, and occasionally interacting with residents to support a positive dining experience. Qualifications Experience in cooking in a commercial or institutional kitchen, preferably in senior living, healthcare, or hospitality settings. Knowledge of safe food handling practices, kitchen sanitation standards, and adherence to local health regulations. Ability to follow standardized recipes, adjust for special diets, and manage multiple meal preparations within set timeframes. Strong organizational and time management skills, with attention to detail in food presentation and quality. Effective communication and teamwork skills to collaborate with colleagues and support a respectful, resident-centered environment. Physical ability to stand for extended periods, lift kitchen supplies, and perform repetitive tasks safely. High school diploma or equivalent; formal culinary training or certification in food safety (e.g., Food Handler or equivalent) is an asset. Willingness to work scheduled shifts including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays, as required.
