Part Time Facilities Maintenance is responsible to clean and maintain various recreational facilities for the department of Parks, Recreation and Culture and perform Facilities Operator duties as required. They are responsible to address and respond to inquiries from staff, the public and facility users and to ensure compliance with health and safety requirements in all aspects of their work.

Qualifications High School Diploma required; specialized courses in custodial or building maintenance programs would be an asset Training in Emergency Procedures, First Aid, WHMIS and/or willingness to attain training on the job Ontario Recreation Facilities Association arena/pool/building related courses or equivalent would be an asset. One (1) to two (2) year experience in a related position. Working Conditions Primarily works indoors. Work in varied temperatures from cold in the arena in the winter season to warm temperatures in the pool area may occur on a less frequent basis. Exposure to hazardous chemicals and fumes Required to push, pull and lift heavy objects on a regular basis Variety of walking, sitting and standing required Responsibilities Provide daily general housekeeping duties for all facilities including but not limited to: sweeping and mopping of floors; cleaning of washrooms and change rooms (toilets, sinks, urinals, showers, mirrors); vacuuming; cleaning of walls and glass; taking out garbage; cleaning kitchen facilities and offices. Responsible to maintain an inventory of cleaning supplies and maintenance related items i.e. tools, for facilities under their care. Advise the Supervisor, Facilities of required supplies in a timely manner to address operational needs. Provide periodic cleaning services for all facilities, including but not limited to: cleaning the air ducts; cleaning the grease trap; stripping and waxing floors; minor drywall repairs; painting; exterior building cleaning (siding, eavestrough); cleaning and replacing light lenses; cleaning ovens/stoves and exterior windows; and carpet shampooing. Perform building maintenance duties for all facilities, including but not limited to: basic carpentry; changing light bulbs; minor repairs and building related requests; repair ceiling tiles; minor plumbing repairs; shovel snow from sidewalks, entrances and exits and salt as required. Perform the duties of the Facilities Operator on an ‘as needed’ basis including but not limited to: ice resurfacing; recording compressor checks; skate sharpening services; responding to customer inquiries and concerns; and pool maintenance. Receive and respond to inquiries from the public and users of the facilities and assist with resolution of the query or direct them accordingly. Comply with all Health and Safety regulations, procedures and security measures while undertaking their duties and ensure the public are aware of guidelines where infractions are observed or as required to follow emergency procedures. Clean the department vehicle and advise the Supervisor, Facilities of any maintenance requirements and complete the vehicle inspection checklist daily. Open and secure facilities as required for public access. Prepare facilities for programs or special events including setup and taking down of tables and chairs on an ‘as needed’ basis. Read the communications log daily at each facility and for specific daily directions/requests and perform same. Log and record all custodial and maintenance activities completed at each facility and advise Supervisor, Facilities of any deficiencies requiring attention. Adhere to high standards of ethical behaviour and demonstrate their understanding that their personal actions impact the public’s perception of the Municipality.
