Role Description The Cook is a full-time, on-site role based at Intercare Brentwood Care Centre in Calgary, AB. In this role, the Cook prepares and cooks meals according to planned menus, dietary guidelines, and residents’ nutritional needs. Daily tasks include food preparation, portioning, and plating, while maintaining high standards of food safety, cleanliness, and infection control in the kitchen. The Cook assists with receiving and storing food supplies, manages inventory, and helps reduce waste by following proper storage and rotation procedures. The role also involves coordinating with dietary staff, responding to resident meal preferences when possible, and supporting a positive dining experience in a team-oriented environment. Qualifications Possess strong food preparation and cooking skills, including experience with batch cooking and following standardized recipes. Demonstrate knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and health regulations, with the ability to maintain a clean and organized kitchen environment. Have experience in dietary or institutional cooking, preferably in long-term care, healthcare, or similar settings. Exhibit good time management and organizational skills to handle multiple tasks and meal schedules efficiently. Display effective communication and teamwork abilities when working with dietary staff, nursing teams, and other colleagues. Hold relevant culinary or cook training and certifications; Food Handler or Food Safety certification is an asset. Be able to perform physical tasks such as standing for extended periods, lifting supplies, and working in a fast-paced kitchen environment. Show reliability, attention to detail, and a respectful attitude toward residents’ needs, preferences, and cultural dietary requirements.
