Community Night Attendant Casual-Aspen

Overview

Reporting to the Housekeeping Supervisor or Community Manager, the Community Night Attendant is responsible for the overall cleanliness and safety of the community during the assigned shift. This position is responsible to resolve any emergency situations that may arise, in accordance with Silvera’s standard operating procedures, and for completing all associated paperwork accurately and legibly.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains security of the community by following procedures and controlling access to the building (monitoring security cameras, utilizing visitor sign-in procedures, etc.).
  • Responsible for the cleanliness and sanitization of all common areas and flooring, including the laundry area and soiled laundry
  • Responds to resident incontinence and follows proper cleaning procedures.
  • Answers phone and directs any community visitors, acts as the primary contact within community.
  • Communicates with the assigned Silvera community at the pre-set times in compliance with Working Alone legislation.
  • Resolves any emergency situations which may arise in accordance with Silvera standard operating procedures. Complete all documentation and associated paperwork.
  • Reports any safety issues to the Community Manager, including unsafe work conditions or areas.
  • Performs daily/weekly cleaning and sanitization of the kitchen area.
  • Completes daily dining room set up and assists in breakfast preparation.
  • Flexibility to support all communities to relieve other Community Night Attendants and/or departments if required.
  • Reports any maintenance concerns in common areas or resident units.
  • Actively participates in the Supportive Living Accommodation Standards.
  • Complete all training and courses assigned and required by Silvera.
  • Participates in and promotes Silvera’s Health and Safety program.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Casual employees must have availability to work at a minimum of 4 days per week, including some weekends.
  • Casual employees must be willing to work (and be trained) in multiple positions.
  • Casual employees must be willing to work and support all Silvera Communities in all quadrants of Calgary.
  • Casual employees must work minimum shifts and must not refuse to take shifts offered without a valid reason and approval. Casual employee’s employment, after three refusals to take up shift(s) or for not working any shift(s) within 3 months, may be terminated with Silvera for Seniors due to “abandonment of position”.
  • Casual employees will not have any guaranteed work hours each pay period and will be called to work when needed. The Employee Scheduler will send emails to multiple staff offering same shifts, in order to get shifts covered right away. Shifts are first come first served thus the reason no guaranteed hours.
  • Casual employees must report any time off request to the Employee Scheduler at least 2 weeks in advance.
  • Casual employees are not entitled to any benefits other than vacation pay.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2-3 years’ experience in housekeeping/room attendance is essential.
  • Demonstrates a high standard of hygiene and personal appearance.
  • Demonstrates strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Excellent customer service skills and a positive attitude.
  • Basic computer skills, such as: basic keyboard skills, ability to complete reports, email functions, ability to complete Silvera online training.
  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision and/or as a team member.
  • Safe Food Handling course, WHMIS, and First Aid, or willingness to complete.

Work Conditions

  • Must be comfortable and willing to work alone.
  • Must be able to lift objects up to 25 lbs.
  • Pulling and pushing, lifting furniture.
  • Required to operate heavy cleaning equipment.
  • Will be required to perform repetitive housekeeping tasks.
  • Must be flexible and have the ability to respond to a variety of changing duties and work routines.

Will be exposed to:

  • Corrosive and non-corrosive chemicals.
  • Frequent bending and stretching.

Hours of Work

Rotational shift work required, including weekends. All shifts are from 11:00pm – 7:30am.
