Position Overview

Under the general direction of the Manager Health Services, and the Allied Health Manager, the incumbent is responsible for the provision and promotion of optimal nutritional care to clients according to professional Standards of Practice. Quality client care is supported through continuing professional development, research, quality improvement and promotion of Clinical Nutrition.

The Clinical Dietitian demonstrates a commitment to the vision, values, goals, and objectives of the region and Riverview Health Centre.

Experience

Two years clinical nutrition experience preferred.

Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)

Bachelor of Science degree, Human Nutritional Sciences, dietetics or related area from an accredited Canadian University program or the approved equivalent if internationally educated, required. Graduate of a recognized dietetic internship program or practical training program including Masters of Applied (Human) Nutrition programs, which have been accredited by the applicable certifying body.

Certification/Licensure/Registration

Must be a Registered Dietitian with the College of Dietitians of Manitoba. Membership with the Dietitians of Canada (DC) is recommended. Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) training requirements for this position shall be in accordance with the Employer policy.

Qualifications And Skills

Comprehensive knowledge and application of medical nutrition therapies. Knowledge of relevant Workplace Safety and Health responsibilities. Practices within the professional standards and the ethical, legislative and legal parameters of the profession (e.g., the act and code of ethics of the College of Dietitians of Manitoba). Ability to effectively express ideas and thoughts in English both verbally and in written format. Ability to establish and maintain good interpersonal relationships. Demonstrated effective written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work cooperatively with other disciplines. Demonstrated professional judgment and initiative. Knowledge of the physical, social, cultural and economic aspects of client care. Demonstrated effective organizational, interpersonal, critical thinking, clinical reasoning, conflict resolution and decision-making skills. Ability to adapt to new concepts, techniques and best practice in the academic and clinical fields of health care knowledge. Knowledge and understanding of evidence informed and evidence-based practice. Working knowledge of research. Ability to perform both independently and as a team member. Ability to critically evaluate and apply relevant knowledge to practice. Ability to function in a demanding and stressful environment. Ability to support and implement change. Demonstrated commitment to continued professional development. Ability to select appropriate communication methods pertinent to the situation. Ability to listen and comprehend effectively. This maternity/parental term may expire sooner than the date indicated subject to a minimum of two (2) weeks’ notice.

This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment. The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred. A security check is considered current if it was obtained no more than six (6) months prior to the start of employment.
