About the role
Department: Front Office Reports To: Front Office Manager / General Manager Employment Type: Full-Time / Part-Time Shift: Overnight (typically 11:00 PM?7:00 AM)
Position Summary
The Night Auditor is responsible for overseeing the front desk during overnight hours while ensuring the accuracy and completion of daily financial and operational reporting. This role combines guest service responsibilities with accounting functions, including balancing daily transactions, preparing reports, and maintaining hotel security and operational standards overnight.
Key ResponsibilitiesGuest Services
- Welcome and assist guests with check-ins and check-outs during overnight hours
- Handle guest requests, inquiries, concerns, and complaints professionally
- Answer telephone calls and respond to reservations inquiries
- Process room changes, extensions, and special requests
- Provide information about hotel amenities, services, and local attractions
- Deliver exceptional customer service and maintain a positive guest experience
Night Audit & Financial Duties
- Complete the nightly audit process and close out daily business transactions
- Balance cash drawers, credit card transactions, and payment records
- Reconcile room revenue, restaurant/bar charges, and miscellaneous postings
- Verify accuracy of room rates, occupancy, and billing information
- Generate and distribute daily financial and operational reports
- Investigate and resolve discrepancies in guest accounts or system postings
- Prepare reports for management review
Operational Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate guest records and reservations
- Monitor hotel activity and ensure overnight security procedures are followed
- Conduct property walk-throughs as required
- Coordinate with housekeeping, maintenance, and management regarding overnight issues
- Prepare front desk for morning operations and shift turnover
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of front desk and lobby areas
Administrative Duties
- File and organize paperwork and reports
- Process end-of-day system procedures
- Update logs and communicate important information to management and incoming staff
- Ensure confidentiality of guest and company information
Qualifications
- Previous hotel front desk or customer service experience preferred
- Night audit experience considered an asset
- Experience with hotel PMS systems (Opera, Maestro, SynXis, Choice Advantage, etc.) preferred
- Strong computer and cash-handling skills
- Basic accounting and reconciliation knowledge
- Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs if required
- Ability to work overnight shifts, weekends, and holidays
