About Peninsula Food Technologies Peninsula Food Technologies (a sister company of Ascona Foods) is a leading manufacturer of innovative food ingredient solutions serving customers across North America. We are currently seeking two reliable, mechanically inclined team members to join our St. Catharines facility and train on our specialized casing shirring equipment.
No direct shirring experience is required. We are willing to train motivated individuals who have a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and an interest in machine operation and manufacturing.
Position Summary The Production Associate / Machine Operator is responsible for learning and operating specialized shirring equipment used in the production of food casings. This role includes machine operation, product inspection, quality verification, record keeping, cleaning, and basic troubleshooting.
Successful candidates will receive on-the-job training and will work closely with experienced personnel to develop expertise in this specialized manufacturing process.
Key Responsibilities • Learn to operate and monitor shirring equipment (Weinert machine) • Prepare, inspect, and load casings and production materials • Perform routine operator care, inspection, cleaning, and basic troubleshooting • Monitor product quality and identify non-conforming materials • Segregate and report non-conforming product • Carry out shift handovers and communicate unresolved production or quality issues • Record batch numbers, production quantities, quality results, waste, downtime, and machine issues • Support production trials and process improvement initiatives • Complete required production and quality documentation accurately • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment • Follow all food safety, GMP, HACCP, and workplace safety requirements • Work closely with maintenance and production personnel to minimize downtime • Assist with packaging, inventory handling, and other production activities as required • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the facility
Qualifications • Manufacturing or production experience is an asset • Mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn specialized equipment • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality • Ability to work independently and as part of a team • Basic math and measurement skills • Good problem-solving abilities • Forklift experience is an asset, but not required
Physical Requirements • Ability to stand for extended periods • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs occasionally • Comfortable working in a manufacturing environment • Ability to safely perform repetitive tasks

Experience operating production equipment is beneficial, but we are prepared to train candidates who demonstrate the right attitude, reliability, and desire to learn.
