Our Banquet Captain is responsible to monitor the daily operations of the Banquet Department, including providing support and guidance to fellow banquet associates to ensure a successful and effective operation ending in a positive guest experience. Support with supervision and direction of Outlet service staff may be require, depending on business needs of the hotel. The Wellness You Deserve: We’ll support you in and out of the workplace by offering: * Team-spirited coworkers & encouraging management * Learning and development opportunities * Reward and Recognition Programs * Staff Accommodation (based on availability) * Enjoy Discounted Hotel stays with Marriott ‘Explore’ Program * Complimentary Staff Meal What we are looking for: * A warm, people-oriented demeanor * A team-first attitude * High attention to detail and a drive to get things done What you will do: * Check all room sets prior to each event * Allocate stations and partners for staff * Review banquet event orders * Communicate with the meeting planner handling the function to ensure all needs have been met and to check for any last minute instructions or changes * Ensure guests who disclose a dietary requirement receive a meal satisfying their needs * Ensure that food is served at the appropriate temperature, and that the entrée is placed properly on table * Responsible for the proper handling of all equipment, i.e., china, glassware, silverware, linen, and props, ensuring proper storage after use * Recommend proper maintenance and repair to Engineering and ensure the proper housekeeping of all function space * If no supervisor shift exists on a given day the position will be required to act as a Banquet Server * Comply with WRS’s Occupational Health and Safety Program and the Regulation of WorkSafeBC * All other duties as assigned Position Requirements: * Serving it Right Certificate * Must be able to regularly lift food trays and equipment weighing up to 30 lbs * Must be able to regularly push and pull carts and equipment weighing up to 250 lbs * Ability to provide a satisfactory criminal record check Skills & Experience: * An understanding of the delivery of quality service standards * Must be able to build and maintain credibility and relationships with customers (internal and external) * Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, and a passion for dealing with and emotionally connecting with others * Caring, efficient and attentive food and beverage service, delivered with enthusiasm, professionalism and in a way to truly personalize their entire experience * Ability to maintain a clean and safe working environment * Stamina to work in a physically demanding job which includes regular lifting and a lot of walking * Previous experience in a similar role in a similar size/type of property preferred * Previous supervisory experience within a four-diamond food & beverage outlet preferred Health & Safety: Health & Safety is at our core! * Daily stretches and movement to get you ready for your day * Safety orientations to ensure you feel safe at work * Proud to be COR certified – an occupational health and safety accreditation program that verifies a fully implemented safety and health program which meets national standards. * Monthly safety committee meetings You’re welcome here Our highest priority is making you feel as welcome as our guests. Requirements

Candidates must possess a Serving it Right Certificate and be capable of performing physically demanding tasks, including lifting up to 30 lbs and pushing carts up to 250 lbs. Previous supervisory experience in a four-diamond food and beverage outlet is preferred.
