The Role The Assistant Manager works closely with the Restaurant Manager to support day-to-day restaurant operations. This role ensures compliance with A&W standards, WorkSafeBC, public health, and employment legislation, and provides full leadership coverage during the Manager’s absence. This position aligns with NOC 60030 and includes responsibilities related to planning, organizing, directing, controlling, and evaluating restaurant operations while supporting team development, financial performance, and an exceptional guest experience. Key ResponsibilitiesOperations Support the Manager in balancing food quality, speed of service, guest satisfaction, and cost control Assist in reviewing weekly P&L statements and managing food, labour, and operational costs Maintain A&W operational standards and support continuous improvement initiatives Ensure compliance with WorkSafeBC, public health, and employment standards Assist with staff scheduling and shift deployment Support equipment, building, and system maintenance Promote team engagement and a positive workplace culture Ensure sanitation, hygiene, and food-handling standards are met Human Resources Recruit, train, and coach hourly team members Support supervisory hiring and onboarding Address performance issues and participate in progressive discipline Mentor team members for future leadership opportunities Lead team meetings when delegated Ensure payroll and scheduling compliance with provincial legislation Promote a safe, respectful, and motivating work environment Document and report critical incidents Assist with Health & Safety meetings and corrective actions Apply HR policies consistently and fairly Financial Assist with daily, weekly, and period-end accounting tasks Support inventory control, ordering, waste tracking, and cost management Apply cash, food, and labour cost-control practices Support accurate sales forecasting and financial targets Monitor revenues and assist with corrective actions Guest Experience Maintain high standards of cleanliness, food safety, and presentation Ensure exceptional guest service through effective team deployment Assist with local store marketing initiatives Resolve guest concerns using the service recovery program Ensure team appearance and conduct meet brand standards Monitor guest satisfaction metrics and support improvements Qualifications & Requirements Secondary School Certificate or equivalent Minimum 3 years of restaurant management experience Strong leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills Proficiency in all restaurant operational positions Knowledge of restaurant operating systems and standards Interest in coaching, mentoring, and developing team members Ability to perform basic accounting and administrative duties Asset - FOODSAFE Level 1 required (Level 2 preferred) Asset - Basic or Intermediate First Aid certification Proficiency with POS systems, Windows 11, and Microsoft 365 Business Core Competencies Leadership & People Development Operational Excellence Cost Control & Budget Awareness Customer Focus Decision-Making Communication Problem-Solving Working Conditions Fast-paced food service environment Standing for extended periods; occasional lifting up to 12 kgs (25 lbs) Flexible availability including evenings, weekends, and holidays Full operational responsibility during assigned shifts
