Originally established in 2008 as a new concept of dining with its modest first location in downtown Hamilton, Ontario, August8  is now a recognized brand among our patrons, followers as well as by the local industry at large. It is the first restaurant of its kind in the area to bring together the finest aspects of both Cantonese & Japanese cuisine.  Having enjoyed years of booming popularity, August8 has expanded its operation to 7 locations across GTA, Hamilton and the neighboring area.

We are looking for 2 seasoned cooks/chefs to join our culinary teams, one at our Hamilton Location, and one at the Stoney Creek Location.  

Responsibilities:

  • Plan, direct and participate in the preparation and cooking of Cantonese and/or Japanese style foods
  • Ensure recipe adherence in kitchen execution of all products served
  • Ensure consistency of quality, portion control and plated presentation
  • Ensure promptness of food products.
  • Estimate inventory requirement and may estimate food and labor costs
  • Control waste and spoilage and ensure that any low items are restocked during shift
  • Ensure the routine cleaning and sanitizing of production areas according to the established cleaning standards and schedules along with always maintaining at all times a clean, sanitary and safe work station
  • Provide training to new cooks in the preparation, cooking, garnishing and presentation of dishes.
  • Oversee adherence to legislative and food handling requirements
  • Oversee kitchen operation

Requirements:  

  • In-depth knowledge of Cantonese and/or Japanese cuisine and cooking techniques;
  • Highly skilled in the preparation of Chinese pastry based dim sum items, such as shaomai, dumplings, hand-made noodles, mini rolls, cakes,  pies, pizzas, etc, .  
  •  A minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in similar style restaurants;
  • 5+years of experience as a cook/chef in Chinese pastry based food preparation and dim sum cooking (steaming, baking, frying, rolling, etc.);
  • Minimum 2 years experience in a commercial kitchen supervising and managing capacities
  •  Completion of Secondary School;
  •  Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment;
  • Vocational training or certificate in culinary arts is an asset;
  • Must be available to work evenings, weekends and holidays

Hours and Terms of employment: Full time, Permanent.

Wage: $20.00- $26.00 depending on experience, plus bonus upon performance
