ABOUT THE POSITION Pigeonhole Downtown is looking for a host/server's assistant to fill out their team in this hybrid role on a full-time permanent basis. Support staff are responsible for several functions including, but not limited to, greeting and seating guests in a prompt and friendly manner, running food to the appropriate tables and being able to describe each dish, maintaining table cleanliness, and are responsible for the overall flow of the restaurant. Pigeonhole on 8th operates as an all-day restaurant, offering a full breakfast and lunch program before moving into its familiar and award-winning dinner service. One part wine bar, one part snack bar, one part diner, all parts hangout, this dynamic space with a democratic and ever-changing menu promises to please the flock. With seasonal, thoughtfully prepared dishes perched next to house staples like shrimp cocktail, Nathan's Famous glizzy’s and Kaluga caviar, our menu offers an approachable, intentional spread. WHAT WE OFFER * Competitive hourly wage * Gratuities * Extended health benefits after 90 days for employees working 28+ hours per week * 25% Company-wide food & beverage discount & access to frequent local business discounts/specials WHAT YOU’LL DO * Welcome and greet guests at the door in a prompt and friendly manner. * Answer text messages, receive and record reservations accurately in a pleasant and attentive manner. * Answer questions about food, beverages and other restaurant functions and services over the phone and in person. * Maintain cleanliness of front desk area, restocking supplies and ensuring menus are organized. * Communicate with servers as to when next tables are going to be arriving. * Monitor and observe guests dining experience, ensuring guests are satisfied with the food and service. Respond promptly and courteously to any requests. * Assist with settling bills and processing any credit, debit or cash transactions as required. * Thank guests for their visit as they exit the restaurant and invite them to return. * Be ready and willing to provide support as needed to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the restaurant as directed by the manager in charge. * Assist in arranging transportation for guests if required. * Execute ad-hoc tasks are required. WHAT YOU HAVE * 1 years’ experience is preferred but not required. * Has worked with the Open Table program before, preferred not required. * Strong English communication skills with ability to establish and develop relationships with team members, partners, and customers. * Basic knowledge of dining room and service procedures and functions. * Basic math skills, can handle money, and operate a point-of-sale system. * Valid Alberta ProServe certification obtained within 30 days of starting. * Ability to maintain professionalism, control, and composure in difficult and stressful situations. * Ability to work in a standing position for long periods of time (up to 5 hours). * Must be over 18 as alcohol service and open scheduling availability is a requirement.
